SUMMARY:GAYC/DC (USA) at The Brightside Brisbane
LOCATION:27 Warner Street\, Fortitude Valley\, Brisbane\, QLD\, 4006
DESCRIPTION:What happens when rock’s most testosterone-charged icon meets a
n unapologetic queer celebration? GAYC/DC First-Ever Australian Tour Prove
s That Even AC/DC's Ultra-Hetero Anthems Can Be Gloriously\, Authentically
Gay The Music of AC/DC Like You've Never Heard It Before - Some things se
em unimaginable until they exist. An all-gay tribute to rock's most aggres
sively heterosexual band shouldn't work. Then you hear it\, see it\, and r
ealise it's exactly what the rock world needed. Don't get it twisted. The
band delivers a show that Louder describes as "s pot on with the music\, u
nforgettable in every way . " Classics like " Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap
" become " Dirty Dudes (Done Dirt Cheap)." They play with such authenticit
y that Music Feeds declares they will turn " skeptics into fans ." After o
ne show\, a newly converted fan enthused\, " I had no idea what to expect\
, but I did not realise AC/DC could be so much fun ." Founded by Christoph
er Freeman (bassist for queercore legends Pansy Division ) and drummer Bri
an Welch \, GAYC/DC has earned something rare in tribute band territory: g
enuine respect from the artists they honor. When the band released their a
udacious " Gay Boy Boogie " video\, it was a homoerotic reimagining of AC/
DC's " Bad Boy Boogie." It was shot as a loving homage to Twisted Sister's
" We're Not Gonna Take It." Twisted Sister frontman Dee Snider himself ga
ve his seal ofapproval: " I think this is great! " That endorsement matter
 s. As Welch notes\, " We love Twisted Sister\, who took rock and drag furt
her than anybody at the time. This is our homage and 'thank you.' As young
gay kids\, seeing fully grown men in drag every day on MTV meant a lot\,
decades before RuPaul's Drag Race was a thing ." While their glitter-drenc
hed\, boa-adorned presentation might read as camp\, make no mistake. Broad
way Rock emphasizes that " while the band and their presentation may be ca
mpy\, their musicianship is pure\, unadulterated rock ." Classic Rock Maga
zine captured it perfectly: " GayC/DC have taken the songs of perhaps the
globe's most heterosexual band and turned them into something altogether m
ore fabulous ." The band's recent "Gay Boy Boogie" video was premiered by
American Songwriter. Their previous " Highway to Hell " video featured cam
eos from rock luminaries. These included Johnny Martin (L.A. Guns)\, John
Bush (Armored Saint\, ex-Anthrax)\, and dUg Pinnick (King's X). These show
how seriously the rock community takes GAYC/DC's mission. This isn't nove
 lty\; it's reclamation.For their first Australian tour\, GAYC/DC\, rounded
out by bassist Glen Pavan \, guitarist Topher Ruby \, and lead guitarist
Steve McKnight (who dedicated 80s/90s hard rock fans may know from Cry Wol
f )\, will bring their explosive live show to six cities across the countr
 y this February. They'll play intimate venues for a hot\, sweaty\, up-clos
e-and-personal rock experience. This is a unique opportunity for everyone.
  Whether you're a lifelong AC/DC devotee\, a rock fan discovering new musi
c\, or just curious about what happens when the world's most masculine ban
d gets a fabulous makeover\, you’ll want to see this. As Instinct magazine
notes\, " GayC/DC are ever living proof that the queer community is alive
and kickin' in the metal world ." In an era where visibility and represen
tation matter more than ever\, GAYC/DC proves that rock and roll\, even at
its most traditionally masculine\, has room for everyone willing to plug
in and let it loose. GAYC/DC creates a space where all are welcome\, provi
ng rock and roll has always belonged to everyone brave enough to claim it.
